The visit of UAE President His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan to the Sultanate of Oman is a testimony of the commitment to a policy of constructive relations and cooperation between the two brotherly countries and their peoples.

The visit which comes at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik will reinforce the shared vision of the two countries for a secure and stable region that promotes sustainable development and supports a thriving economy in which people can realise their full potential.

Inherited by the generations, the historical relations between Oman and UAE are linked by brotherly ties and strategic relations whose approach was founded by the late Sultan Qaboos and Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan. The late leaders signed many agreements in cultural and education areas.

Under the same framework, the historic visit of Shaikh Zayed to Oman in 1991 was a key milestone in the cooperation between the two countries, and a joint higher committee was formed that issued a resolution enabling travel between the two countries using IDs instead of passports.

The relations are compatible in many areas of shared interests that serve the peoples of the two countries over the past decades maintaining the integrity in the purviews of visions that stem from language, religion and kinship.

The statement of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan during Oman’s 51st National Day celebrations last year that “the UAE and Oman share deep-rooted ties that grow stronger every day” highlights the depth of the relations filled with key milestones that strengthened the relations.

The two countries also share a common cultural heritage, including in arts and literature, which shaped a similar identity for their peoples and the peoples of the Gulf region.

Oman and the UAE are the first two countries of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf to adopt the personal card as a document for the movement of their citizens instead of passports since 1993.

When it comes to bilateral visits and relations, there have been mutual visits and continuous coordination between officials of the two countries, during which prospects for joint cooperation in various fields and enhancing investment opportunities are discussed.

The Oman-Emirati Economic Forum also held two sessions, in October 2021 and February 2022, where they discussed the development and upgrading of trade and investment partnerships and working to open new channels of a partnership between the business communities in the two countries.

Tuesday’s visit by the UAE President constitutes a new starting point for more tangible steps, coordination and integration towards the achievement of the shared interests of the two countries. It will motivate more action for the realisation of the prosperity for the peoples of both countries in all spheres.

The visit will also reflect positively on the economic, investment, and societal aspects as the two countries are constantly keen to form practical visions and perceptions about the future of joint relations.

The UAE has been working to achieve the maximum exchange of benefits between the two countries, taking advantage of the investment opportunities in the Omani market, where the portfolio of Emirati projects is diversified in multiple sectors, most notably the manufacturing industries, financial services, construction, real estate, as well as tourism.

The peoples of both countries are looking forward, with great hope that the meeting between His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan will open the next stage for more combined efforts to maintain the advanced levels in the relations.
