Help and support started to pour in for those suffering from the recent earthquakes that shook Turkey and Syria since Monday, from the people of the Sultanate of Oman.

Humanitarian efforts took new dimensions after the Turkish embassy launched a relief campaign for the victims of the deadly, devastating series of earthquakes.

Various Omani associations, NGOs and other socio-cultural organisations of expatriates jumpstarted concentrated efforts to collecting materials from households and commercial establishments.

Accordingly, anyone can contribute the necessary relief materials or donations to the embassy located in Shatti Al Qurum which will be carried to the affected through Turkish Airlines, an embassy spokesperson told the Observer.

"We held a meeting on Friday to coordinate the relief aid to these two countries which was attended by a Turkish embassy official and we are happy to have collected sufficient materials for the people there," said Francis from World Malayalee Council.

The essential goods currently accepted for the survivors include winter clothes for adults and children like overcoat, raincoat, boots, trousers, sweaters, scarves, gloves, beanies, socks and underwear; food items such as legumes, rice, flour, cooking oil, salt, canned foods, baby food, cleaning and hygiene products, women's hygiene products, and other materials such as tent, beds, mattress, blankets, sleeping bags, gas stove, heater, thermos bottle/flask, flashlights, power bank, generator, and the like.

"Aid and donations can be delivered in a box containing a list of contents to the embassy headquarters at Shatti Al Qurum, Street No 3019, Building No 1622," said Manal Allouzi, an embassy representative.

Those who would like to sign the book of condolences kept at the Embassy of Turkey can do so at the embassy.

"We would like to thank everyone who sent messages of condolences and support to our embassy after the devastating earthquake that occurred in the Republic of Turkey on February 6," Muhammet Hekimoğlu, the Ambassador of Turkey, said.
