Oman book Bangladesh final in Junior AHF Cup

Hosts Oman thrashed Uzbekistan 5-0 to set up a final against Bangladesh in the Junior AHF Cup at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Wednesday night.


Oman led 2-0 at the half-time and hit three more goals later to round of a resounding victory.


Hussam Bait found the opening goal for the hosts in the ninth minute from a penalty corner.


Osama Barazahan made it 2-0 for Oman in the second quarter with a field goal in the 21st minute.


Uzbekistan's Abdusalom Madaminov received a yellow card in the 26th minute.


Osama extended the Oman lead to 3-0 from a penalty corner in the 35th minute.


Aliyas al Noufali consolidated Oman's position in the semifinal with a nice field goal in the 45th minute.


In the last quarter, Oman got a penalty stroke and Aiman Madit made no mistake to make it 5-0 in the 53rd minute.


Uzbekistan though made some good moves could not find the target in the match.


Bangladesh blank


Thailand to enter final


After a barren first three quarters, Bangladesh struck in the last quarter to blank Thailand 3-0 in the first semifinal at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.


Mohammed Jibon, who earlier received a yellow card, struck the first goal in the 48th minute.


Mohammed Hussain made it 2-0 in the 56th minute from a penalty corner.


Two minutes later, Mohammed Hasan completed the scoring for Bangladesh with a brilliant field goal.


Bangladesh’s Mohammed Rahman got a yellow in the 48th minute for a rough tackle.


Oman’s Mazin al Shukaily and Nozomi Uzawa of Japan officiated the match.


In the classification matches for 5-8th positions, Sri Lanka edged Indonesia 5-4 in the shoot-out after a 3-3 draw at the full time.


Chinese Taipei beat Hong Kong 6-3 in another 5-8th position match.
