Oman meet Uzbekistan in Junior AHF Cup semifinal today

MUSCAT: Hosts Oman will meet Uzbekistan and Bangladesh take on Thailand in the semifinals of the Junior AHF Cup 2023 in Muscat on Wednesday.


Group A toppers Oman will clash with Group B second-placed Uzbekistan at 6.30 pm while Group B leaders Bangladesh meet Group A second-placed Thailand at 4.15 pm in the first semifinal at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.


All the semifinalists have qualified for the Junior Asian Cup 2023.


Oman and Bangladesh have won all their three group matches to move into the last four with nine points.


In their last group match, Oman smashed Indonesia 8-0.


Hassan al Balushi scored three goals (10, 52-pc, 53-pc) while Al Khoder al Naufali netted a brace (12, 43-pc,) for the hosts. Abdul al Hasani (23), Aiman Madit (31) and Omar al Mamari (54) netted one each.


In their last group match, Bangladesh thrashed Uzbekistan 6-1 on January 9.


Though Uzbekistan stunned the top ranked team with a penalty corner goal in the 18th minute through Abdusalom Madaminov, Bangladesh came back to hit six goals to win the match.


Tournament top-scorer Amirul Islam (9 goals) netted three penalty corner goals in the match (26-pc, 28-pc, 54-pc).


Mohammed Joy hit the target twice (39, 52) while Mohammed Hasan struck in the 33rd minute for Bangladesh.


Sri Lanka meet Indonesia and Chinese Taipei clash with Hong Kong in the 5-8th place matches on Wednesday.


The tournament will conclude with the final (6.30 pm) and the classification matches on Thursday.
