MUSCAT, JAN 8

OQ, a global integrated energy group, signed today three agreements with the Environment Authority (EA) to finance three environmental initiatives. This step reflects OQ’s belief in the importance of preserving the environment and embodies its social partnership and support for the efforts exerted by governmental entities and initiatives.

The first agreement is related to OQ’s Green Initiative, a project that aims to increase green areas by planting 250,000 tress as part of the national initiative for planting 10 million trees launched on 8 January 2020.

The second agreement relates to supporting Al Saleel Natural Park as part of OQ’s belief in the importance of effective social engagement for the wellbeing of the society members. The third agreement is related to supporting the initial response unit for oil pollution incidents at Musandam governorate. This project falls under OQ’s social investment programme as part of its approach aiming at promoting the efforts exerted to protect the environment and conserve natural resources. Environment conservation is considered a pillar of the social responsibility programmes carried out by OQ.

These agreements were signed by Dr Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of Environment Authority, and Tala bin Hamad al-Awfi, Chief Executive Officer of OQ Group.

On this occasion, Dr Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri said: “We appreciate the efforts exerted by OQ, the global integrated energy group, in various environmental aspects whether when it comes to complying with the national and international environmental frameworks and legislationsin its operations or implementing environmental requirements in various operation sites."

He added: "We also commend its contributions to the environment by enhancing the efforts made by governmental authorities including the Environment Authority to provide support for some initiatives aiming at conserving the environment and natural resources."

He explained that the agreements signify OQ’s contributions to conserving the environment. They would help in implementing initiatives like the 10 million trees plantation initiative launched by the EA to expand the green areas in the Sultanate of Oman. The Group also finance Al Saleel Natural Park at the Wilayat of Al Kamil Wal Wafi in Sharqiyah South Governorate, as part of its social contributions to preserve the national natural resources.

For his part, Talal al Awfi said: "The signing of these three agreements reflects OQ’s commitments towards conserving the environment in the Sultanate of Oman considering that it is a pillar of OQ’s social investment programme. It also embodies its social responsibility and the Group’s belief in the importance of enhancing the governmental and social efforts aiming at implementing the initiatives that call for environment preservation and conserving natural resources."

"OQ makes the environment a priority in every aspect of its operations and activities out of its belief in the importance of business sustainability. It pays great attention to the necessity of striking a balance between achieving this sustainability and conserving natural and environmental resources," he added.
