Survey on citizens’ views on local media content published

The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) in cooperation with the Ministry of Information has published a survey on citizens’ opinions about the local media content.


The survey, which covered the period from March 20 to 31, 2022, covered the opinions of citizens on media content across various platforms.


The survey data showed that 70 per cent of citizens watch the Oman TV channels, of which 61 per cent watch those channels on their TV, while 19 per cent watch on social media.


The survey indicated that the public Oman channel is the most watched local TV channel by Omanis (48 per cent).


The frequency of male viewing of Oman TV channels was 86 per cent, compared to 18 per cent for females.


The survey said 1 out of 10 Omanis do not watch the Sultanate of Oman TV channels with the reasons being poor content (66 per cent) and lack of time (26 per cent).


It was noted that 74 per cent of Omanis listen to local radio channels in the Sultanate of Oman, while 24 per cent do not listen to the radio at all.


It was revealed that 70 per cent of citizens do not read newspapers.


The poll covered 1,739 citizens residing in the Sultanate of Oman in the age group of 18.


Approximately four out of 10 of the targeted people who prefer to read Oman newspapers read them once or twice a week.


Current affairs (political/economic) in Oman newspapers are the most preferred by readers, followed by sports.


Newspapers have more male Omani readers (30 per cent) compared to female readers (15 per cent). 35 percent of newspapers are in the age group 50 years and above.
