Key forum highlights role of innovative industries in driving growth

The 2nd International Conference on Economics and Business Administration, focusing on the theme, “To Promote Innovative Industries for Sustainable Growth and Development’, began on Monday, December 22, 2022, under the auspices of Abdulsalam bin Mohammed al Murshidi, President – Oman Investment Authority (OIA). The two-day event, which is taking place at Hormuz Grand Hotel, is being attended by a number of local and international dignitaries.


The second edition seeks to discuss a number of prominent business issues from a global and local perspective, as well as highlight the local and international practical challenges in the business sector.


Topics that will be covered during the conference include: management, marketing, accounting, finance and economics, in addition to operations management and information systems, tourism, sustainability, political economy, entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation.


The conference also provides a platform to strengthen links between the academic sector and the business sector to discuss the latest developments, review the most innovative solutions in the business world, and identify priority areas for research by benefiting from the insights of policy makers and executives.


In addition, the conference aims to bridge the gaps between academics and practitioners by creating collaborative links between scientific research and industry, while identifying new areas of research, facilitating cooperation and providing networking opportunities in various business fields, as well as providing a platform for researchers to develop their research further with insights from experts and practitioners. A total of 53 working papers will be presented by local and international experts across 13 different sessions.


On the first day, Dr Hatim bin Bakhit al Shanfari - Assistant Professor, Department of Economics and Finance, College of Economics and Political Science at SQU, moderated a panel discussion featuring Abdullah bin Salem al Salmi, Executive President - Capital Market Authority, Tahir bin Salem al Amri, Executive President - Central Bank of Oman, and Azzan bin Qasim al Busaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.


Al Mukhtar bin Saif al Abri, Dean of the College of Economics and Political Sciences, said: "There is no doubt that all countries of the world are undergoing political, economic and social transformations imposed by several factors, the most important of which are: the direct effects of the pandemic and the repercussions resulting from the policies to contain the pandemic, the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and the acceleration in digital transformation and the employment of modern technologies in various sectors, the transformation in the global financial system, and the momentum towards clean energy use. These factors force changes at the macroeconomic and public policy levels as well as at the business model level.


This multidisciplinary conference in economics and business administration comes to discuss the most prominent of these local and international practical challenges in the business sector and to review ways to promote growth in various sectors and through innovation in financing models and products and business projects to achieve sustainability in economic growth and improve sustainable development indicators. The conference provides a platform to strengthen links between the academic sector and the business sector to exchange views and experiences to discuss the latest developments, review the most innovative solutions in the business world, and identify priority areas for research by benefiting from the insights of policy makers and executives,” he added.
