In a different gesture of unity and harmony amid differences, the Embassy of Brazil in Muscat hosted the fans of Swiss team as well as Brazil when the teams came face to face on Monday at the Fifa World Cup in Doha last week.
It was an action that underlined the fact that sports acts as a bridge to fill the gaps of differences.
"It was a unique way of cheering for both teams which underlines the fact that as teams we may be different but as humans, we are just one," a fan cheering the Brazil team said.
As many as 70 football fans were hosted by the embassy. They cheered for the Switzerland and Brazil teams. They were given food and beverages through the match making it an unforgettable experience for the sports-minded fans. The embassy was well decorated with flags of both teams and festoons and danglers were on display.
"We just wanted to send out the message that sports unites people and not divides us. We are happy to have hosted the first of its kind sports event complementing the mega fest in Doha," Milton Coutinho Filho, Embassy of Brazil, Charge de Affaires said.
