Oman Stallions stun AER, Yalla Shabab prevail

MUSCAT: Oman Stallions beat AER Bin Ali by 5 wickets convincingly and Yalla Shabab outsmarted Muscat CT by 6 wickets in the Premier Division of the Oman Cricket League Season 2022-23 powered by Muscat Pharmacy fixtures played this week.


On Friday, Oman Stallions called right at the toss and put AER Bin Ali to bat first. AER started at a good pace with both openers Zeeshan Siddiqui and Azam Ali looking in good shape and tandem. Oman Stallions’ pacer Hemal Tandel picked the first wicket getting Azam Ali trapped in front of the wickets in his fifth over.

Off with a reasonable powerplay, AER Bin Ali were looking to set a big total but the Oman Stallions’ turners had bigger plans. Jay Odedra and Mohit Patel operated in partnership claiming wickets in quick succession with both bagging 3 wickets respectively leaving AER bundled down for just 144.


In return, AER started on a high with Muzahir Raza claiming wickets of both openers in his first and third over. Although being 3 down in the powerplay, skipper Karan Sonavale and Rafiullah ensured Oman Stallions recovered well and were on for the chase with Vinayak Shukla coming in and notching some quick runs to get the Stallions past AER.


Hannan, Nadeem shine On Saturday, Yalla Shabab won the toss and elected to bowl first. Muscat CT started off scoring 28 in the powerplay losing Kashyap Prajapati to Mehran Khan.Skipper Jatinder Singh held the Muscat CT batting by scoring a sublime half-century and holding one end but none of his counterparts could go long. Off-Spinner Nester Dhamba playing his first match of the Premier Division this season claimed 4 wickets in his spell of 10 overs well supported by Mohammed Zahid claiming 2 wickets. Muscat CT could pile up just 169 with a closing contribution by Samay Shrivastav remaining not out scoring 19 off 25 balls.


In return, Yalla Shabab went all guns blazing at the Muscat CT armers with only Ayaan Khan being able to cause interruptions to their plans. Hannan Rizwan’s and Mohammed Nadeem’s sublime half centuries ensured Yalla Shabab got over the line to claim its second win of the season and continue their undefeated run.

Muscat CT 169 all out in 48 overs (Jatinder Singh 64 (105b, 5x4); Nester Dhamba 4-29) lost to Yalla Shabab 170-4 in 38.3 overs ( Hannan Rizwan 80 (83b, 8x4,2x6), Mohammed Nadeem 51 (85b, 3x4); Ayaan Khan 4-26) by 6 wickets.
