New development and service projects to come up in South Al Batinah

RUSTAQ: The Governorate of South Al Batinah has over the past decades witnessed the implementation of several development and service projects to meet needs of the citizens and provide stability for them. Like the other governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, the development wheel continues running in South Al Batinah Governorate under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik with the renewed Renaissance and Oman Vision 2040 is well under way in all governorates each of which is envisioned to have autonomy in terms of service provision and development projects.


Speaking to ONA, Shaikh Saif bin Hamyar al Malik al Shehi, Governor of South Al Batinah, said: “The process of development and construction in the Sultanate of Oman is gaining more momentum in response to the aspirations and ambitions of the Omani citizen which made the Sultanate of Oman a shining example,”


The Governorate of South Al Batinah, like the rest of the governorates, is getting a great attention from His Majesty Sultan Haitham and has seen significant progress in various fields. A great support is accorded to the projects that contribute to improving the services rendered to individuals and establishments, the governor said.



A number of projects were approved and others are under implementation while some projects have been completed in all wilayats of South Al Batinah Governorate in the first phase of the Tenth Five-Year Plan (2021-2025). In all, there are currently 47 development projects that aim at developing tourist sites, heritage landmarks and beaches and providing them with infrastructure and facilities. Other projects are aimed at developing traditional markets and establishing commercial stores and walking tracks in a number of wilayats, he said.


The governor of South Al Batinah noted that the governorate will organise the Recreational Tourism Forum this November in collaboration with public and private agencies. The three-month event will include a number of activities that highlight tourism, economic and cultural aspects in addition to consumer exhibition, entertaining events, handicraft products exhibitions and seasonal product exhibitions. Other activities include sand marathon, trekking between mountains and sand dunes in addition to recreational and tourism activities on the sands of Khubat Al Qaadan.


The forum also includes activities marking the 52nd National Day in all wilayats of the governorate such as folk arts, marine activities in the wilayats of Barka and Musannah such as beach recreational games and equestrian camel games, the governor said, confirming the participation of a number of institutions and authorities in the governorate with a view of strengthening the national identity, promoting tourism and highlighting its role in supporting the economy, the governor said.


The most eminent projects under implementation in South Al Batinah Governorate include developing Ain Al Kasfa in the Wilayat of Al Rustaq, a vital project that encompasses establishment of a spa, bus parking, castle-shaped circular terraces overlooking the source of the spring, restaurants, cafés, commercial stores, a mosque, and many more, the governor said.


Contracts have been awarded for the development of Tiwi Al Hara site, the development of Souq Abu Thamania in the Wilayat of Al Rustaq to become an integrated system combing the fish market (under construction) and the Tiwi Al Hara area which is considered as an economic tributary in addition to the construction of new markets in the wilayats of Al Awabi and Wadi Al Maawil, the governor said. — ONA
