Can art be a healer? Can it be used as a therapy? Can art awaken the innate tastes and inclinations of a person?

Studies and research have found that by giving us a medium for expression, we communicate by drawing and expressing our own emotions, thoughts and experiences.

When one sees an object or a beautiful landscape or person, he or she is seeing the world through their eyes and when he creates, he is letting the world see through his.

A unique idea was born when the Indian school Muscat (ISM) from its thought of promoting the inculcation of art and craft in students in the formative years as it motivates them to reach superior levels of skill.

A one-of-its-kind art camp titled ‘Art Clinic — An Artist Camp’ was organised for the students under the guidance of the Department of Visual Arts that advocates the idea that children have innate talents and by giving them a brush and a few colours they can paint the impossible.

The camp commenced with the Chief Guest of the day, Shabab Bava, Chairman of the Co-Curricular Subcommittee at the Management Committee declaring the camp open with his first stroke of the brush and colour on a blank canvas. Rajeev Chauhan, the Principal of the school lauded the initiative taken up by the Department of Visual Arts and expressed his heartfelt appreciation.

More than 150 art enthusiasts and budding artists painted their canvases with unimaginable hues. The contemporary art camp comprised abstract painting, landscape painting, figurative painting and portrait painting. The outcome of the confluence of colours was magnificent and eye-catching.

An array of instrumental performances by the students under the guidance of the Department of Performing Arts added opulence to the event. Representing all facets of visual art, each painting was over-brimming with emotions and expression of aesthetic mastery. The prodigious creativities which illuminated the hall were marvellous and deserved accolades.

Underlining what great artists have said, art is more than just a medium and is a way of life that connects people and cultures. It teaches one to appreciate the beauty of life and all things around the artistic eyes. It’s significant to the students as it adds wings to their imagination and forms their ingenuity. Apart from relaxation and entertainment, art provides a sense of accomplishment to the creators.
