MUSCAT: In an effort to create a better future for Omani women from different walks of life and to make them financially independent and self-reliant, Khimji Ramdas’s (KR) Eshraqa recently conducted ‘Ana Aqdar’ — a tailoring and fashion design training programme, in partnership with the Omani Women Association, Muscat. This support is part of Eshraqa’s ‘Qudurat initiative’, which focuses on women’s empowerment and employability.

The two-month training programme which began in September mentored ten women on various tailoring techniques using the sewing machines and tailoring tools provided by Eshraqa. The initiative culminated with a fashion show held at the Omani Women's Association in Muscat, under the auspices of HH Sayyida Hujaijah bint Jaifar Al Said, Chairperson of the Association for the Welfare of Handicapped Children. The fashion show showcased costumes that were designed and sewn by the participants themselves. Some of the best participants received top honours and were felicitated by the chief guest at the event.

Highlighting Eshraqa’s role in women empowerment initiatives across the Sultanate, Nailesh Khimji, Director, Khimji Ramdas Group said, “Eshraqa appreciates the value women bring to society as leaders, innovators, and accelerators of change. Through our support of programmes like the ‘Ana Aqdar’, we remain committed to Oman’s Vision 2040 by creating an environment of equality and inclusivity. We will continue to encourage Omani women from different walks of life to build a better tomorrow for themselves and their families, and the society at large.”

HH Sayyida Aliya bint Thuwaini al Said, Chairperson of the Omani Women’s Association mentioned: “KR Eshraqa’s support is creating new livelihood opportunities for the Omani women who have participated in the ‘Ana Aqdar’ program. Skill workshops such as these go a long way in supporting women to become powerful agents of change.” KR’s Eshraqa has been established on the premise that the private sector has a responsibility towards the development of local communities and empowering talented individuals in the Sultanate. By working towards nation-building at the grassroots, Eshraqa aspires to contribute meaningfully to socio-economic progress by building infrastructure and talent that will lead to the enhancement of knowledge, skills and capabilities in society.
