Shihab to speak in Volleyball Legends Seminar

Oman’s Dr Shihab al Deen Ahmed al Riyami, FIVB Coach Instructor, will be one of the speakers to deliver part of the Volleyball Legends Seminar which will take place virtually on Saturday. The event is ranked as a world-class online seminar for volleyball coaches, featuring some of USA’s most successful coaches.


The seminar is suitable for coaches of all levels. Oman Volleyball Association (OVA)’s Development & Technical Director, will deliver a crucial part of the seminar focusing on training methods and team culture.


The six hours remote event will provide a steady flow of good ideas from successful coaches that the participants can use to chart their own path. The online seminar will focus on off-court topics including: team culture, practice planning and mental training. The participated coaches in the virtual course will receive fresh ideas whether they are a new coach or have been coaching for decades.


“I am very pleased to be selected as one of the speakers to deliver a coaching session in the Volleyball Legends Seminar. This is a great honour for me and a golden opportunity to attend in a such world-class seminar that will add in my technical expertise as coaching instructor,” he said.


The seminar will also feature Karch Kiraly, USA women’s national team head coach (2012 to present), Taras 'Terry' Liskevych, USA women’s national team (1985–1996), Russ Rose from Penn State University (1979–2021), John Dunning from Stanford University (2001–2016) and Ruth N Nelson, founder of Bring Your Own Parent (BYOP).


All the speakers have a wide range of coaching styles and personalities which will reflect on the seminar.


“Attending this seminar will provide a perfect window for all the speakers and participants to exchange experience and develop their training methods and styles. I am very enthusiastic to take part in this global event,” he ended.


The agenda of the seminar will include different topics including: five keys to getting the most out of practice, team culture, mindset and learning, game day preparation: before the first whistle, coaching women athletes, good blocking requires watching the right things, training your setter’s brain, training young athletes, all players should watch video of themselves, teaching competitiveness and practice, planning and execution.
