MUSCAT: Bahwan Engineering Company LLC, a local engineering, construction, and utilities development company in partnership with Bloom Energy, a US based company conducted a technical seminar at Hotel Muscat Intercontinental, on Bloom’s solid oxide based fuel cells.
The seminar titled ‘Bahwan – Bloom Energy Summit’ was very interactive, with audience participation from Energy Development Oman, OLNG, OQ, OPWP, Tanweer, Ministry of Defence and Hydrogen Rise.
Bloom’s fuel cell technology is a perfect fit, as an interim product in the country’s transition from fossil fuel to green hydrogen. Bloom solid oxide cells run either on natural gas alone or with an equal mixture of natural gas and hydrogen to produce electricity. The technology was first used by NASA in their Mission Mars programme. It is known for its high level of reliability and dependability. The technology provides a sustainable solution for uninterrupted power. The technology has been in use for the past 16 years and the total installed base power generation is 600 MW. Bloom has also launched electrolysers for production of green hydrogen. It is the same fuel cells, which works on reverse cycle to produce hydrogen and oxygen from water.
BEC, with its reputation of being a formidable partner having more than four decades of experience in developing, constructing and operating power stations makes the combination a boon for the country’s march towards green energy sector.
