The US State Department welcomed the efforts of the Sultanate of Oman to calm the situation in Yemen.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, made a call with Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss the imminent end of the UN-brokered armistice in Yemen, scheduled for Sunday.
"During our conversation, today, @FMofOman al-Busaidi and I expressed our countries’ strong support to help secure an extension and expansion of the @un-mediated truce in Yemen this Sunday, which would bring further life-saving relief to millions of Yemenis," Antony Blinken, the US State Secretary. I spoke with @OSE_Yemen Grundberg to reiterate our strong support for his efforts in extending and expanding the
@UN -led truce in Yemen on October 2. I also expressed our concerns with recent Houthi actions that obstruct the truce’s benefits from reaching millions of Yemenis, said in a statement.
The State Secretary Spokesperson Ned Price, "Antony J. Blinken spoke today with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr al-Busaidi to discuss the impending expiration of the UN-mediated truce in Yemen on October 2. The Secretary welcomed Oman’s commitment to extending the truce and its efforts to help secure an expansion of the truce, which would bring further life-saving relief to millions of Yemenis. This additional relief would include paying teachers, nurses, and other civil servants who have not been paid in years, expanding flights from Sana’a, opening roads in Taiz and elsewhere, and ensuring the continued flow of fuel. The Secretary reiterated the shared concern about a return to war, which would only bring further destruction and suffering and again needlessly delay a peaceful future for Yemenis."
