Oman women snatch seven medals in Jordan tent pegging

Muscat: Oman women's tent pegging team won four gold, silver and bronze medals on the first and second days of the International Women’s Tent Pegging Championship (Grand Prize), hosted by Jordan, from September 21 to 25, in Petra.


The championship features the participation of 28 contestants from 14 countries, Oman, Jordan, Sudan, Russia, Belarus, Britain, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Norway, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.


Oman team includes Ghanima bint Abdullah al Shukaili, Turkiah bint Mahmoud al Balushi and Amal bint Abdullah al Maskari. Other members are Mohammed bin Salem al Maliki as the team manager, Hilal bin Hassan al Balushi as team coach and Khamis bin Khadabkhsh al Balushi as an official for the mission.


The first day witnessed the opening ceremony of the tournament, and the competition started of the first round of the tournament of singles of spears, doubles of spears, where Oman national team managed to achieve the bronze medal at the team level with a total of 24 points, while South Africa won the gold medal at the team level with a total of 33 points and Sudan won the silver medal with a total of 31.5 points.


The competitions of the second day, the second round of the tournament, were through single sword, double sword, where the chances of Oman team were great by obtaining three medals, which is the gold medal at the team level with a total of 24 points, while India occupied the runners-up and Pakistan came third. Also, Oman team’s contestant Ghanima bint Abdullah al Shukaili won the silver medal at the individual level, and the contestant Turkiah bint Mahmoud al Balushi won the bronze medal also at the individual.


The third day, the third and final round and the conclusion of the tournament will be on Sunday through the competitions of sharing and wedge with a spear for the individual, and lemon and wedge with the sword for the individual.
