Geneva: The Sultanate of Oman has ratified proposals made by the Independent Expert who recommended the establishment of a democratic and equitable international order. Oman supported the expert’s call for convening regular conferences under the aegis of the United Nations (UN) and developing stronger mechanisms to consolidate peace, security and coexistence.

This was stated in Oman’s speech before the Human Rights Council’s 51st Session focusing on Clause 3, titled “Interactive Dialogue, Rethinking International Peace and Security—the Risks Posed to the Global Democratic System”.

The speech was delivered by Talal Hilal al Seyabi, member of Oman’s permanent delegation to the UN in Geneva, who asserted that Oman has always been “an advocate of international peace and security that worked for fostering ties of coexistence among nations and resolving disputes through dialogue and peaceful means”.

Al Seyabi pointed out that Oman’s stands are compatible with international calls for consolidating global peace and coexistence, the rejection of conflicts and the settlement of disputes through understanding in a manner that eases tensions.

Al Seyabi reiterated the pillars of Oman’s foreign policy which, he said, is based on principles of respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of others. He added that Omani foreign policy stems from the “human dimension” in establishing relations among different countries of the world. He affirmed that these pillars form development and the future of progress and prosperity of nations.

Oman strives to transform proper algorithms of peace and security into added values—in the context of development—with the prime aim of enhancing shared benefits, said Al Seyabi, noting that this approach tallies with the theme of Article 1 of the “International Declaration on Right to Peace”.
