New York: Delegated by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Dr Hilal Ali al Sabti, Minister of Health, headed the Sultanate of Oman’s delegation taking part in the first meeting of the Global Group of Heads of State and Government for the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs) and Injuries (Global NCD Compact).

The Global NCD Compact is held in New York, the United States of America (USA).

The meeting underscored the importance of prioritizing prevention and control of NCDs within the framework of national and international response to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This comes in the midst of increasing global death rates caused by NCDs, with the tally of deaths reaching millions among people aged between 30s and 70s.

The meeting explored means of supporting international action on NCDs and achieving the SDGs, as well as exchanging expertise and ideas in this regard. Emphasis was laid during the meeting on boosting and accelerating efforts to achieve the SDGs.

The Global NCD Compact is the first meeting of its kind at the level of heads of state and government who are undertaking a leading strategic role in prevention and control of NDCs.
