His Majesty congratulates Shaikh Mohammed

MUSCAT/ABU DHABI: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik on Saturday offered his condolences to Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), shaikhs, Al Nahyan Family and the Emirati people on the demise of Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan.


During their meeting at Abu Dhabi Airport, His Majesty the Sultan expressed his heartfelt sympathies, praying to the Almighty Allah to rest the deceased’s soul in peace in Paradise and grant Shaikh Mohammed, his family and the UAE people fortitude to bear the loss.


On his turn, the UAE President expressed his utmost thanks and appreciation for His Majesty’s sincere condolences and prayers. He prayed to the Almighty Allah to grant His Majesty good health and well-being and protect him and the Omani people against all harm.


Earlier in the day, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik sent a cable of congratulations to Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on the occasion of electing him as a President for the UAE.


In the cable, His Majesty the Sultan expressed his heartfelt sentiments and best wishes of good health and well-being to Shaikh Mohammed. His Majesty prayed to the Almighty Allah to grant Shaikh Mohammed success in leading the UAE people towards further progress and prosperity.


His Majesty the Sultan was accompanied by an official delegation comprised: His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmood al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers; HH Sayyid Fatik bin Fahar al Said, Special Envoy of His Majesty the Sultan; HH Sayyid Taimour bin Asaad al Said, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Central Bank of Oman; HH Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham al Said; Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidy, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court; General Sultan bin Mohammed al Numani, Minister of the Royal Office; Shaikh Abdulmalik bin Abdullah al Khalili, Chairman of the State Council; Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al Busaidy, Minister of Interior; Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister; Dr Hamad bin Said al Aufi, Head of the Private Office; Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidy, Minister of State and Governor of Muscat; Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information; and Dr Sayyid Ahmed bin Hilal al Busaidy, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the UAE.


The Federal Supreme Council of the UAE on Saturday unanimously elected Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan as President of the United Arab Emirates.


The Council held a meeting at Al Mushrif Palace in Abu Dhabi, chaired by Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.


The meeting was attended by Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan; Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah; Shaikh Humaid bin Rashid al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman; Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah; Shaikh Saud bin Rashid al Mu'alla, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Umm Al Qaiwain and Shaikh Saud bin Saqr al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras al Khaimah.


A statement issued by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs said that according to Article 51 of the Constitution, Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan was unanimously elected as the President of the UAE to succeed the late Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan.


Their Highnesses, the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates have reaffirmed their keenness to continue implementing the authentic values and principles laid down by the late Shaikh Khalifa, following on from the founding father, the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan. These have consolidated the UAE's status at both regional and global levels.


The Federal Supreme Council expressed its full confidence that the people of the UAE will remain, as Shaikh Zayed and the founders believed, "a faithful guardian of the Union and its gains at all levels".


Their Highnesses wished Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan success in serving his people and country.


Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed expressed his appreciation for the precious trust placed in him by his brothers, Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, praying to the Almighty to guide and help him to bear the responsibility of this great trust and to fulfil its tasks of serving his country and people. — ONA/WAM
