There has been an overwhelming response to the 35th session of the survey measuring people's satisfaction under the current economic conditions as the enumerators are pressing ahead with the deadline of September 27, a spokesperson from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) told the Observer.

The NCSI began implementing the Consumer Confidence Survey for the third quarter of 2022, which will last for two weeks aimed at taking feedback from 1,500 citizens of 18 years and over residing in various governorates, on September 12.

"We are taking into account the representation of males and females in relation to society, age groups and different educational levels and data is collected by telephone from the call centre at the National Centre for Statistics and Information," she said.

The Consumer Confidence Index is one of the important indicators of the performance of economic activity. The survey aims to measure the development in the material condition of Omani families and the factors that positively or negatively affect the level of the Omani economy. In addition to identifying the future expectations of the Omani economy, the economic situation of families at the present time, their purchasing power for household appliances, cars, and various commodities, in addition to the availability of job opportunities at present and future expectations for them.

"All data will be kept confidential according to the Statistics Law issued by Royal Decree No 55/2019 in Article No 11 which states that all individual data in accordance with the provisions of this law, which relate to any census, are considered confidential, and may only be published in an aggregate form. It is prohibited to be viewed by any individual or governmental or non-governmental entity, and may not be used for anything other than statistical purposes," she said.

Any citizen who wishes to participate in the survey can get in touch with the centre and express his opinion on the set questions.
