Germany to play friendly against Oman

Four-time World Cup winners to hold five-day camp in Muscat

The Oman Football Association (OFA) announced on their official twitter account that Germany team will hold a training camp in Muscat during November 14 to 18 ahead of Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022.


The preparatory camp of German national team will feature a strong friendly game against Oman on November 16 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. The match will kick off at 6 pm.


Hosting of four-time winners of World Cup is part of Sultanate of Oman’s promotion for Muscat city as an accredited destination for the reception of World Cup fans. It is also inline to Oman’s support towards Qatar’s efforts to organise a successful edition of World Cup in Doha and celebrate the region’s hosting of the major international event.


According to OFA statement in twitter, OFA Chairman Salim al Wahaibi, in coordination with Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, managed to reach an agreement with German national team to host them in Muscat for a period of five days ahead of their top assignment in Qatar 2022 World Cup.


Back to history, the Red Warriors had played with German team in February 1998 as the latter won the game 2-0. Jurgen Kohler and Jorg Heinrich had scored the winning goals. The match was part of German team’s preparation for the World Cup in France in 1998. Mannschaft team had ended their journey in 1998 Fifa world cup in quarterfinals as they had suffered a 3-0 defeat against the Croatian team.


Germany, coached by Hansi Flick, will play in World Cup Qatar 2022 in Group E which features Japan, Spain and Costa Rica. The opening match of the group will feature Germany and Japan on November 23 while Germany face Spain in the following game on November 27. Germany will meet Costa Rica in the concluding group match on December 1.
