Omantel hosts Fifa 22 e-sports event in Salalah

MUSCAT: Omantel continues its quest to enable e-sports in Oman. On Saturday, the company hosted a prestigious e-sports event, Omantel Fifa 22 Tournament, in Salalah, Dhofar. Top players from the Middle East were in for a strong competition, where they unleashed their full potentials.


Demonstrating Omantel’s ability to host a major regional e-sports event, the tournament attracted fans of the Fifa game, Fifa champions, and gaming in general. In addition, the event reflected on Omantel’s continuous commitment and support towards the advancement that circulates around the e-sports industry in Oman. This was an important opportunity for the Fifa e-sports champions and fans to come


together.


Building up to the flying start to the launch of Omantel’s e-sports platform that has been initiated with PlayHera MENA, the tournament was an opportunity for the passionate gamers to showcase their talents and meet the legends. Eng Aladdin Baitfadhil, Chief Commercial Officer at Omantel, commented, “We were extremely delighted to host such a reputable Fifa tournament with only the elites. We see the event as a platform for champions across the Middle East to gather and showcase their competitive talents.


"It is also an occasion to thrust Oman into the limelight as a country that works towards the progress and development of the gaming and e-sports industry. In addition, it is an opportunity for young fans to share the stage with talented e-sports players in the heart of Salalah. Owing to the enormous popularity of e-sports all around the world, we hope our youth would avail such tournaments and turn them into opportunities to grow and compete regionally and internationally.”


Following intense competition between the champions, Abdullah Mohammed Al Raish, a Fifa Champion from Kuwait, succeeded in claiming the first place, as the runners-up position was achieved by Mohammed Fawzi Hothan from Saudi Arabia.


Saleh al Ghassani from the Sultanate of Oman won the third place.


Abdullah Mohammed Al Raish, Fifa Champion from Kuwait, reflected on the professional organisation of the tournament as he stated, “I was really impressed by the detailed and well-thought-out event planning, from welcoming us to providing all the necessary tools to compete and showcase our skills to the fans. The e-sports industry is developing rapidly in the Middle East; thus, it was extremely important to participate in this tournament, especially in such welcoming conditions here in Salalah”.


Fahad bin Abdulrahman al Hasani, Omani Fifa Champion, illustrated the significance of hosting such tournaments in the region as he said, “the gaming industry is continuously evolving all around the world, as such, it is vital to be aligned with this revolution here in the Middle East, to allow young and talented gamers to showcase their skills and build careers around the industry. The event was a huge success for me, not only for competing with fellow talented players, but because of the unity, gathering, and interaction with e-sports fans.”
