OTA completes arrangements for Arab veterans tennis

MUSCAT, August 29:


The Oman Tennis Association (OTA) is gearing up for the 10th Arab Veterans tennis championship to be held in Salalah from September 4 to 9.


The organising committee for the Arab tennis event held its third meeting under the chairmanship of Dr Ahmed al Saidi in presence of tournament director Salman al Balushi.


Abdul Rahim al Balushi, general supervisor of the tournament, stated that all preparations have been completed.


"The stadiums, transportation and the schedule of the tournament have been prepared, where two tourist trips are being made for the participants and for the first time the photo exhibition from the first championship to the ninth championship will be held on the sidelines of the championship."


Salem Abu Bakr will be director of the tournament, while Saudi international referee Youssef al Turaif will the chief referee.


20 OMANI PLAYERS


Twenty Omani players will compete in the 145-strong player registration for the event.


"A reception for the participating delegations will be held on 8 pm and the number of participants so far has reached 145 participants from the participating countries and with the participation of 20 Omani players for the first time."


The official reception for the participating delegations will be organised in Odeh Al-Madhi Square at Al Haffa Beach under the patronage of Shaikh Badr bin Ali al Rawas, Director-General of Administrative and Financial Affairs.


"Accommodation and the main hotel in Al Fanar Hotel in Salalah. The tournament will be on the tennis courts of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah."


"Delegations will arrive on September 2 and leave on September 10. The closing ceremony will be on September 9 at 5 o'clock in the tennis courts," Salman added.


On September 3, an exhibition match between Omani tennis star Fatma al Nabhani and Kuwait player Mohammed Abdul Ridha Ghareeb will be held at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex.


On September 4, the official opening ceremony of the championship will be conducted at 11 am .


The matches will begin from 8 am and continue till 8 pm.


On the second day, another exhibition match between the ambassadors of the Arab Veterans Championship will be held under the patronage of Shaikh Amer bin Ali al Shanfari, President of Al Nasr Club.
