Golden sword festival to start on Saturday

Muscat: The seventh edition of the golden sword camel race festival competitions will start on Saturday in Al Bashayer Camel Race Track in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate at Adam.


The race will be organised by the Al Bashaer Department for Arab Camel in cooperation with the local Committee in Al Bashayer Square and the private sector under the patronage of Engineer Yaqoub bin Khalfan al Busaidy, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for Fisheries.


The race will include 16 races, 12 rounds for 'Hagayag' category, below 3 years old, for a distance of 2 km,


including 7 rounds for 'Bakar' (female camel) and 5 rounds for 'Jaadan' (male camel).


The first place winner in the first half will have the festival golden sword and an MG car, while the winner in the second half will have the golden dagger and an MG car, and for the rest runs, the first place will be an icon for 'Haima’s shield' and cash prize, in addition there are 4 rounds for 'Lagaya' category (4 years old) for a distance of 3 km, golden Shelfa and the gun will be for the winner in each rounds and cash prizes for the top ten places.


The seventh edition of the golden sword festival, which started in 2015, comes with the support of the


Rubua Haima Company, owned by Hamad bin Saeed al Junaibi, member of the Majlis Ash'shura representing Duqm. The support comes within the company’s annual community service, which aims to support camel owners and camel coaches in Oman, as it represents a source of livelihood for a large group of breeders and those interested in camels.


The festival is expected to witness intense competition between the qualified camels from the four


qualifying races that were held earlier on different fields.
