Oman fencers to take part in West Asian tourney in Jordan

Oman national fencing team is gearing up to take part at the West Asian Fencing Championships which will be held in Amman city, Jordan, during August 26 to 31. Oman youngster fencers will compete among the opponents from Kuwait, Iraq, Syria, Palestine, Lebanon and hosts Jordan.


Oman team fencers will be under intensive preparatory programme ahead of the West Asian event. A warm-up programme in Amman city began on Friday and will run for six days under watchful eyes of Tunisian coach Hisham Karshood. The camp is part of Oman Fencing Committee's cooperation with Jordan Fencing Federation. The warm-up camp will feature friendly tournament prior to the West Asian tournament.


The Omani delegation travelled to Amman on Thursday night with a squad of nine fencers along with experienced fencing coach Hisham Karshood. The squad comprised of many top potential national fencers including Israa al Siyabi, Ahmed Kaskaas, Said al Shuaibi, Omar al Harthi, Al Harith al Harthi, Ali al Busaidi, Ammar al Azizi, Jana al Sharji and Salma al Dughaishi.


In their latest participation at the Mediterranean Fencing Championship hosted by the Jordanian Fencing Federation, Oman’s fencers had produced a top performance and managed to snatch five medals including one gold, one silver and three bronze medals.


Young Omani fencer Israa al Siyabi impressed as she had claimed first place in the floree category in junior level. Ahmed Kaskaas bagged one silver medal in the floree category and another bronze medal at epee category. Said al Shuaibi won two bronze medals in floree and epee categories.
