Konya: Olympian Amer al Khanjari bagged a silver medal for Oman in the weightlifting 89 kg category in the fifth edition of Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkey, on Sunday. With the silver, Oman claimed their fourth medal in the Games.
Amer lifted 193 kg in the clean and Jerk competition. The Omani lifter also achieved a record of 156 kg in snatch competition among 12 competitors at Tuyap hall in Konya.
The Islamic Solidarity Games is being held from August 5 to19 in Konya with participation of 5,000 athletes from 55 countries.
Earlier, Oman national shooting team opened the preliminary qualification for (shozen skeet) shooting at Konya shooting field. On the first day, the qualifying consisted of three rounds. Each round has 25 points, with total of 75 points.
In men’s competition, shooter Nagmosh al Hatali achieved 74 points among 35 shooters. Yasir al Nasri finished with 71 points and Mohamed al Gharbi earned 68 points. In women’s shooting, Oman’s Fatima al Sulaimi finished with 59 points.
On Monday, the shooting competition continues with another two rounds out of 50 points. On same day, the top eight shooters in two qualification rounds will compete in the final round.
Oman national swimming team concluded their participation in the Games. Issa al Adawi achieved a time of 2.00.07 minutes among 19 competitors in 200m freestyle competition.
