Seeb face off Al Nahdha in Super Cup clash to start season

Defending champion of 2021/22 His Majesty's football Cup and Omantel league title owner, Seeb, will lock horns with runner up of Omantel League, Al Nahdha, in the Super Cup clash on Friday. The new season opening encounter will kick off at 6.05 pm at Al Saada Sports Complex.


Both sides of the final super clash had geared up properly through internal camps since a couple days ago. Seeb, under new coaching staff headed by Romanian coach Ilie Stan, will aim for another strong start in the new domestic season after a successful journey in the previous one. Muscat based team managed to capture two titles including the coveted cup and top tier league title. The fans of Seeb will eye on a historic win of Super cup for the first time. The 55-year-old will depend on many key players in today’s night clash including Abdulaziz al Maqbali, Mohsin al Ghassani, Mohammed al Musalami, Eid al Farasi, Marwan al Siyabi, Salalah al Yahyei and others.


On the other hand, Al Buraimi representative club, will target for the third title of Super cup. The national experienced coach Hamed al Azani has many strong faces that can add value in the green field including: Ahmed al Kaabi, Manssor al Naimi, Brazilian player Welmerson, Interias Ghi, Arseni Luku and others. Both teams met in the previous season and the first leg match ended for Seeb 2-0 while Al Nahdha won in the second leg match with the same result.


The former Oman Olympic national head coach, Hamed al Azani, commenced his statement in the press conference that it is great to meet the defending champion of the last season.


“The Super cup match against Seeb is a crucial fixture for Al Nahdha team to stand on the team’s readiness for the new season. There were many new faces who entered to the team and I believe they need more time and to play further games for better harmony. We are expecting a very long season and both teams arrived to the Super Cup means they did well in the previous season,” he ended.


The goalie of Al Nahdha, Abdullah al Mamari, said that today’s clash is a great chance to begin strong season. “The weather climate is suitable for delivering a top match and all the players are in good condition for top show. Our target is to accomplish Super Cup in the beginning of the new season,” he concluded.


On the other hand, Seeb head coach Ilie Stan, predicted that the match will not be easy for both sides. “ I am expecting a tough match as both teams delivered perfect show in the previous season. I am fully confident on my squad to show their top performance in the game. My aim is both teams to deliver top match that reflected Oman’s development in football,” he added.


The Romanian coach affirmed that Seeb featured top quality players. “Despite some players left the team, Seeb has strong squad and all of them under good shape for starting a thrilling season,” he ended.


Seeb’s defender Mohammed al Musallami, said that Seeb’s goal in this match is to snatch the Super Cup title. “ The match is not going to be easy. If we saw the results of both teams, we can predict that the encounter will be tough for both teams. The team back to training recently and we are in good condition to register a perfect start in new season. The pressure is always under Seeb team due to top predictions of the fans to claim more titles. We will do our best towards achieving new accomplishment for the club,” he added.


The national umpire Yahya bin Ahmed al Balushi will officiate the super cup match. The 29 years old was the referee for the Super Cup match in 2019 and he was among the umpiring squad of the HM Football Cup match in 2021/2022. His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, is the chief guest while a number of top dignitaries and officials are expected to attend the match.
