WTT contender back to Muscat in September

MUSCAT: Following the several successful major TT events in Muscat including WTT contender in last February, another edition of WTT Contender Muscat 2022 will be hosted in the capital city from September 4 to 10 at the indoor halls of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex venue. The registration of the world-class TT event started on Friday and the deadline of online Entry System is set on Tuesday, August 9 for the singles category while closing date for doubles entry is on Tuesday, August 16. The prestigious TT event will be organised by Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA) in corporation with WTT (World Table Tennis), and world table tennis governing body ITTF.


It is expected the forthcoming edition of WTT Contender Muscat will feature participation of more than 100 paddlers representing different parts of the world. The previous version of the tournament registered more than 200 paddlers from 40 countries around the world. Presence of Oman’s national TT team players is expected in this championship and the squad will be announced soon by the head coach of the team, Omid Shamas Sharbabki from Iran.



The seven-day event will witness different competitions categories including singles, doubles and mixed. The participants will compete for a cash prize money which is equal to $75,000.


The tournament prospective released by the WTT includes all the rules and regulations of the tournament. The playing system of all singles matches shall be best of five games except for the semifinals onwards, which shall be best of seven games. All doubles and mixed doubles matches shall be best of five games while all competitions are elimination knockout.


On the other hand, OTTA is moving on the right track towards hosting World Veteran Championship in Muscat in early 2023. The main organising committee of the championship is headed by Basil bin Ahmed al Rawas, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports and Youth, beside many members from government and private sectors. The committee is in charge for all the technical and logistics preparations of the championship. The top world veteran championship will take place at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC).
