Extraordinary efforts pay dividends in generating jobs

The efforts made by the Ministry of Labour to generate jobs and employment opportunities for citizens in the country in government and private sectors, should be appreciated.

If we look at the social and economic condition of hundreds of thousands of families living in various parts of the country, we realise that there is a well thought out strategy and plan to hire nationals in various types of employment. This shows that those who are at the helm of affairs in the Ministry of Labour are doing their best in this pivotal responsibility. The spirit of their hard work is to provide all citizens of the country social security so that they can live with comfort and tranquillity in their own homeland. They are doing all this as top priority so that the youth of the country have brighter prospects and better future. The ministry is dealing with all the challenges which come in its pursuit of ensuring stable social and economic life for the people of the country. When we analyse these extraordinary efforts and hard work being done by the ministry, we should be fair. We should also be honest about our own responsibilities in this regard.

There are many who do not realise or understand the seriousness of misjudging their actions. When we talk about them, we should also gauge the volume of the problem. If we would keep our one eye shut, we would never be able to have a proper view of the situation. The situation in the world at this exceptional time cannot be ignored. This is affecting all spheres of human life. It is not leaving social stability untouched. Any view of a thing or a situation is not complete without learning about its flip side.

There is no doubt that a number of professions and vocations have been completely Omanised. The citizens of the country have replaced expatriates in many places. This is a major success of the policies which were formulated at the highest level in the country and implemented by the ministry.

There is a complete understanding of the view that sons and daughters of the soil have the first right if there are any openings for jobs. The government wants exactly this. This is the reason we see a long queue of job-seekers, from among those who have passed out from various colleges and universities of the country.

There is a gap between demand and supply of jobs. The government is aware of this. Give a cursory look at what the government is doing to bridge the gap, you would be surprised to notice that there is round the clock work going on in the ministry to ensure that no post is left vacant without offering it first to the nationals. At the same time, the government does not want to fill the air in the balloon beyond a limit. It is taking all practical steps and does not keep the job-seekers and aspirants in the dark. It also wants them to think out of the box, share their ideas, dreams and aspirations rather than wait for crutches.

Recently, the Ministry of Labour opened several hundred opportunities in various sectors including retail, business management and accounts. These jobs did not come from a vacuum. A well-studied plan was devised for this by the ministry to ensure that the graduates from various educational institutions get these jobs. Similarly, thousands of job opportunities are being opened up. The ministry is working on this overtime.

The government has formulated policies and plans that citizens of the country get jobs in certain sectors, professions, and vocations. It is not ready to compromise on the rights of the people of the country over many of the jobs. This is a top priority. There is no ambiguity in this. Those who have the habit of pointing fingers always towards others should also look within, understand their own responsibilities as citizens, and assess their own expectations.
