Tropical situation: Muscat, North and South Sharqiyah to be affected

Muscat: The National Committee for Emergency Management (NCEM) has activated its social media platforms to provide updates on the latest tropical situation in the Arabia Sea, which is expected to have an impact on the parts of the Sultanate of Oman.


NECM has directed to raise the state of preparedness in a number of governorates expected to be affected by the tropical situation to minimize the hardships that will be caused to residents and citizens.


The National Committee activated the sub-committees in the governorates of South al Sharqiyah, North al Sharqiyah, and Muscat to enhance its readiness for the potential impacts of the tropical situation.


The Ministry of Transport and Communications and Information Technology has notified port operators, shipping companies, maritime and logistics services providers, and marine unit owners to enable emergency response plans, be cautious, and follow up on weather updates and condition updates from the official sources.

Meanwhile, the latest weather maps and analyses of the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center Indicate that the tropical depression is located northeast of the Arabian sea near the coastal areas of India (Gujarat) at latitude 23 N and longitude of 67 E.


The wind speed around the depression's center Is estimated at 17 to 27 knots and it Is likely to move north-westward towards the coastal areas of the Sea of Oman within the coming two days with a chance of dissipating near the Pakistan-Iran coasts.


The impacts of this weather system are still expected to affect the Sultanate of Oman gradually today and continue for the next three days.

The sea state will be rough along the coastal areas of Arabian Sen coasts with a maximum height of 4 meters and slight to moderate along the Oman Sea with a maximum height of 1-2 meters.


The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources has called on farmers, livestock breeders, beekeepers, and fishermen in the governorates expected to be affected by the tropical situation to take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety and safety of their property.


It has also predicted the possibility of cumulus clouds forming and scattered rain and thunderstorms at times over the Al Hajar Mountains areas during the evening.


There are chances of sporadic rains in the Dhofar governorate that may extend to the desert areas of the governorate.


The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) said that its trained cadres are monitoring the latest developments in the Arabian Sea, using advanced systems and technologies.


Authorities have warned that a case file will be formed and referred to the prosecution for anyone who puts himself and others at risk during the climatic conditions.
