The monsoon trough located near Gujarat, India has now become a tropical depression with low pressure on its surface that gives the system strength, which is why now it has been classified as a tropical system.

Its direction continues to be the same as forecast before said Mohammed al Mashayki, Meteorologist from the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre, “It is expected to move north west in the coming hours or days. The depression is right now located north east of the Arabian Sea, around 900 km from the closest point in Sultanate of Oman. This is the centre of the depression, but the closest convective cloud around the depression is 500 km from the closest point in Oman.”

The impact is expected to be experienced in the northern governorates of Oman — South Al Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Hajr Mountains, Muscat, South Al Batinah, North Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah as well as some parts of Al Wusta.

“On Sunday we are expecting this system to have an affect on South and North Al Sharqiyah and Muscat. We are expecting anytime on Sunday midnight or early morning on Monday in South Al Sharqiyah. More details will be issued by the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre'', explained Al Mashayki.
