Nizwa: The Sultanate of Oman is taking part in the sixth International Universities Debating Championship being held from June 17 to 22. The event, which is organised by QatarDebate, is a global debating competition that attracts students from around the world, where students discuss and exchange ideas in Arabic on societal and global challenges and pressing contemporary issues.

Oman’s delegation includes about 34 men and women, eight arbitrators, and two supervisors of the board from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth.

On the participation, Nasser bin Humaid bin Abdullah al Hinai, Executive Director of Oman Debate Center, said: "Oman Debate Center is associated with the QatarDebate Center. QatarDebate Center has organised this event annually; one year for university students and the next for school students. This time it is held outside Doha. Turkey is hosting the event this time with more than 90 teams from different countries."

The Sultanate of Oman is represented in this edition by four teams: Al Sharqiya University, Oman College of Health Sciences, Al Buraimi University College, and the International College of Engineering and Management.

This participation is supervised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth. The centre's role was to hold a training camp in the Sultanate of Oman for three months and establish a specialised programme for the participating teams. The centre also performed independent follow-up by appointing a separate coach for each team who monitors the preparations for the tournament. This training aims to raise the efficiency of the Omani teams participating in the sixth international championship.
