Oman’s Taha al Kishry to attend FINA Extraordinary Congress in Budapest

Oman’s Taha al Kishry, Chairman of Swimming Association, will take part at the FINA, the global governing body of swimming, Extraordinary Congress 2022 on Sunday as apart of the 19th FINA World Championships occasion which is under way in Budapest, Hungary since Saturday. Al Kishry is a FINA Bureau Member since 2017.


Moreover, the globe swimming event in Budapest will witness attendance of another Omani represented by Abdulmoneim al Alawi, FINA open water referee. Al Alawi selected as focal point for safety and security personnel at the 19th FINA World Championships. His main responsibilities included to secure the safety of swimmers inside and outside the open water in corporation with the relevant government authorities and institutions. Al Alawi had attended in different outstanding profiles swimming events including his role at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics last summer as umpiring official at Open Water swimming competitions. He was the first Arab and Asian chief referee to officiate at Olympic games level.


The 2022 FINA Extraordinary Congress will feature discussion of different agenda including election members of the AQUATICS INTEGRITY UNIT (AQIU). On December 18, 2021, the FINA Extraordinary General Congress in Abu Dhabi approved the


recommendations from the FINA Reform Committee. In particular, it agreed with the principle to establish an Aquatics Integrity Unit.


With regards to postponement of the FINA World Championships in Fukuoka, the FINA Bureau decided that changes within FINA Rules and appointment of certain FINA Committees will take place at the occasion of a FINA Extraordinary General Congress to be held in December 2022.


Taha al Kishry re-elected as FINA Bureau Member in Doha city last year for another term till 2025 during the FINA GENERAL CONGRESS 2021 which was held in Doha city. The congress members also had elected Husain al Musallam as a new President of FINA. Al Kishry has more than 30 years of experience in sports management and administration. He endorses many key roles in Arab and Asian sport. He is a member of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Sports Committee since 2008 and the Director General of the Asian Swimming Federation (AASF) since 2009. Al Kishry also holds the position of Chairman of the Arab Swimming Federation. Since February 2009, Al Kishry is the Oman Swimming Association Chairman as well as the Oman Olympic Committee Secretary General since April 2013.
