MUSCAT: Yohann Chacko Peter, the karate kid, has brought laurels to the Sultanate of Oman and India as he clinched gold medals at the Tbilisi Grand Prix Karate International Competition held at Georgia on June 5.
His stunning performance both in Kata and Kumte category for 8-9 years old contributed towards grabbing two gold medals.
During the award ceremony, watching him stand innocently while the national anthem of India was being played stole the hearts of the viewers.
Yohann was trained under Ali al Raisi Karate Club and Sensei Ali al Raisi, Sensei Pouria Heidarian, Sensei Hossein Parsi Aziz. He started training at the age of 5 1/2 years under Karate Belt Brown.
His other Karate medals include 5th Shotokan National Tournament in Muscat when he got Gold (Kumite) in 2019.
In 2022, he pocketed Silver (Kumite) Bronze (Kata) at the 7th International Shotokan International Tournament held in Muscat.
He was showered with congratulations and blessings from people around the world.
Yohann is the son of Peter Chacko and Annie Peter and is an enthusiastic student of Class 4 at Indian School Bausher and St Mary’s Orthodox Church (SMOC) Sunday School, Ghala. Apart from excelling in karate and academics, he enjoys playing chess and piano.
The Vicar and the management committee members of SMOC, Ghala have congratulated young Yohann and his proud parents for this outstanding achievement.
