Oman U-17 gear up for West Asian Championships in Jordan

Muscat: Oman national under-17 football team began another short domestic preparatory camp on Monday at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat.


The warm-up gathering is part of the team’s preparation for the West Asian U-17 Championships which will be held in Jordan during September 21 to 30.


The eight days camp will feature morning and evening training sessions while the team may face some local friendly games.


Eight teams will take part at the Asian event distributed into two groups. Oman is clubbed in group A besides the defending champion Yemen, Iraq and the hosts Jordan.


The Group B comprises Lebanon, Palestine, Syria and Kuwait. The toppers from each group will advance to the semifinals. Oman will commence their campaign with a match against the hosts Jordan in the opening day. Then they will face Iraq in the following day. Oman will take on Yemen in the concluding fixture of the group stage on June 25.



Oman’s last preparatory camp was ended in the first week of May under supervision of Spanish coach Pablo Herrero Fernandez.


During that camp, the national U-17 team had played friendly games against Muscat U-19 club which ended at 1-1 draw. In this underway camp, the Spanish coach will finalise the starting line up of the Asian event.


Oman’s head coach Pablo Herrero Fernandez picked up 26 probables for Oman squad namely: Fernas al Jabri, Helmi al Balushi, Al Harith al Mashakhyi, Yassar al Balushi, Awad al Mashakhyi, Momen al Souli, Anas al Ghadani, Tamim a Buraiki, Hamza al Saadi, Jassim al Dhaeen, Marwan al Noobi, Emad al Hadi, Haitham Khareef, Al Hussain al Balushi, Abdullah al Maqbali, Mohammed al Balushi, Abdul Nasser al Hasani, Zaher al Aysari, Abdullah al Rawahi, Adnan al Mushaifri, Taha al Hinai, Hamed al Shuraiqi, Al Haitham al Shukaili, Mohammed Ghanim, Syaf Mustafa and Abdullah al Hindasi.
