Seminar on atheism and the truth of monotheism begins

Muscat: A two-day symposium titled 'Atheism and the Truth of Monotheism, Method, Vision and Practical Interpretation' was inaugurated by the Imam Jaber bin Zaid Endowment Foundation and Dar al Kalima al Tayyibeh, under the auspices of Shaikh Nasser bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of the State Financial and Administrative Audit Institution, at the Sultan Qaboos University on Tuesday.


His Eminence Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad al Khalili, Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman, gave a speech on the role of science in defining the existence of God Almighty.


His Eminence pointed out the need for institutions to pay attention to righteous upbringing and upbringing that do not conflict with the nature that God created people with, saying: “Scientific institutions should take great care in education and nurture people with this faith that connects them to God Almighty."


Shaikh Khalil bin Ahmed al Khalili, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Imam Jaber bin Zaid Endowment Foundation, said, "There is no doubt that the youth's insight into the matter of their religion and taking in their own hands to face these challenges is a great responsibility and a great trust."


His Eminence Shaikh Kahlan bin Nabhan al Kharousi, the Assistant Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman, also gave an address in his opening speech on dealing with atheism.


Dr Amr Sharif touched on the causes of atheism, which are religious suspicions, the clash between science and religion, moral and civilisational backwardness and multiplicity of religions.


Dr Abdullah bin Hamdan al Dahmani, Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the symposium, said: “The reality of monotheism is the central reality in the belief, thinking and behaviour of a Muslim. Decadal, intellectual and behavioural deviation, and atheism has become a behavioural psychological problem and this problem has decorated intellectual foundations, technical media support and social spread that may reach in some places the degree of social phenomenon, which is between 5-7 per cent of the population in a society."
