MUSCAT: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology signed here on Monday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Microsoft company to boost digital transformation projects in the Sultanate of Oman.

The MoU was signed in the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre on the sidelines of the Comex 2022 technology exhibition.

The MoU aims to develop initiatives that contribute to grooming the abilities of students, academic institutions, small and medium enterprises, start-ups and government employees by providing them with needed skills in digitisation and artificial intelligence (AI).

Microsoft will support the ministry in developing AI tools and ensure their practical effectiveness in various government units. It will also back the government’s efforts in adopting the latest technologies to realise Oman’s goals of building a sustainable knowledge-based economy.

The Government AI Readiness Index issued by Oxford Insights positioned Oman at the 47th rank internationally and 6th on the Middle East in terms of readiness in utilising AI tools. -- ONA
