Comex, the Sultanate of Oman’s official technology show, was inaugurated by Dr Khamis bin Saif al Jabri, Chairman of Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit, at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre on Monday.

Many government organisations are present at the show introducing their latest initiatives and digital services as Muscat celebrates its role as the Arab Digital Capital for the year 2022. An example is Muscat Municipality as a representative explained, “This is the latest facility for companies especially contractors and concerns who want to attain No Objection Certificate. They can do the process online.”

This year more than 80 companies are taking part in Comex 2022.

“For the first time, we are having a dedicated zone for more than 150 startups called Comex Tech Venture, where many startups from the region are having the opportunity to showcase their products and services,” said Amr bin Abdullah Baabood, CEO of OITE.

Leading telecommunications companies have a prominent presence, and making an entry into the 31st edition of Comex is Banking and FinTech Zone. There is also an innovation zone that showcases the projects in Oman.

The digital transformation has reached at various levels in the Sultanate of Oman, according to the participants at Comex.

Ensuring all members join the digital transformation, Oman Information Technology Society is being the connecting point.

Muhalab bin Khalfan al Moharbi is from the Oman IT Society, “One of our roles is gathering together IT experts who are into programming and networking. An important part is sharing skills between the experts and beginners. It is open to all nationalities.”

Meanwhile, government organisations showcased the technology and innovation that is currently used in various fields while moving towards Oman Vision 2040.

There is a strong presence of SMEs along with the participation of the SMEs Development Authority.

Abdullah al Subhi from Oman Environment Authority explained, “We use drones as part of our conservation plan in areas that have special plants and animals. We can also do surveillance on these protected and restricted areas by detecting if anyone has violated the rules. We also scan the geographical area and create 3D mappings before we visit the locations.”

One of the major attractions at the technology show is Omani electric car Mays. The owner Haider al Zaabi said, “It is fully electric, and all the components are international, so we are competing with all the international brands. So far we have received 500 reservations, and it is looking promising. In the future we are going into SUVs. What is unique is that we have a futuristic design, and we are promoting this type of design but the price is good too.”

Inside the vehicle, one big screen controls everything and has features that can read your stress level.

From the latest products in electronics to data services are available at the 31st edition of Comex.

“In case one cannot be present here physically, they can catch up with the technology show by participating virtually. They will experience the 3D environment while creating their own avatar to explore different pavilions,” said Sadiq Khan, Group COO of OITE and Arab Research Bureau.

Comex this year will also have a number of workshops and conferences.
