Oman power to semis of WAFF tourney

Oman beach soccer team advanced into semifinals of the West Asian Federation (WAFF) Championship which is under way in Jazan city, Saudi Arabia.


Oman’s progression into the semifinals was confirmed after they thumped Kuwait 3-1 on Thursday.


Oman’s beach heroes began their campaign at WAFF Championship in Group A with a match against UAE. The match ended in favour of coach Talib Hilal’s men 4-2.


Oman’s goals were scored by Sami al Balushi (two goals), Khalid al Oraimi and Abdullah al Souti.


In the following match against Kuwait, Oman continued their winning run.


Sami al Balushi and Khalid al Oraimi were again on target besides Mashal al Oraimi who etched his name in the scoring list. The concluding game of Oman team in the group matches was late on Friday against Lebanon.


Coach Talib Hilal will look forward to a top show in the semis and seal their ticket to the final match. The team under coaching of national experienced coach Talib will eye for a another accomplishment since their last third appearance at the 2021 Fifa World Beach Soccer in Russia.


In other matches of the WAFF Championship, Kuwait beat Lebanon 4-1 in penalty shoot-out after they ended full-time at 4-4. UAE edged Lebanon 5-4 in the second round match.


In Group B matches, hosts Saudi Arabia suffered a 6-4 loss against Palestine in the opening game. In the second match, Bahrain beat Palestine 4-2.


Oman’s current squad at WAFF beach soccer Championship featured experienced and new young faces including Mundher al Oraimi, Mashal al Oraimi, Salim al Oraimi, Khalid al Oraimi, Amjad al Hamdani, Khalid al Mukhaini, Nouh al Zadjali, Ahmed al Owaisi, Younis al Owaisi, Sami al Balushi, Yahya al Buraiki, Sameer Jameel, Nouh al Battashi and Abdullah al Souti.
