Oman futsal team makes strong start in Kuwait

Oman futsal team began their campaign at the GCC Games in style with a 2-1 win over UAE team in the opening game on Wednesday at Shaikh Saad Al Abdullah Multi Sports Complex B Stadium.


Coach Younis al Fahdi started the match strongly as they were seeking for the opening goal to dominate the fixture. Mohammed al Lawati gave Oman the lead in the sixth minute as he netted the opening goal.


The first half ended with Oman leading 1-0.


The opponents UAE bounced back immediately in the second half with Hammad Ahmed scoring the equaliser in the 31st minute. Zamil al Balushi then put Oman ahead in the 39th minute. This goal was enough for Oman to end the first fixture on winning note.


Oman will take on Bahrain in their next match on Friday.


In the other games, Saudi Arabia registered their first victory in the tournament after they beat Bahrain 3-1 on Monday. Hosts Kuwait defeated UAE team 3-0 in the second match of the opening day fixtures.


The GCC Games will act as a vital preparation stage for the team’s forthcoming assignment at AFC Futsal Asian Cup Kuwait 2022. Oman futsal team had booked their spot in the AFC Futsal Asian Cup Kuwait 2022 which will be held in September this year after defeating UAE 5-3 in the West Asia play-off in April.


Five teams from West Asia have qualified to the 2022 AFC Futsal Asian Cup Kuwait including Lebanon, Saudi Arabia from Group A, while Iraq and Bahrain made the finals from Group B and Oman entered through play-off.


OMAN SQUAD: Hisham al Wahaibi, Abdulaziz al Raqadi, Mohammed al Lawati, Muhanad al Shibli, Khalfan al Maawali, Mansoor al Hadi, Zamil al Balushi, Essa al Balushi, Loai al Wahaibi, Motaism al Shamsi, Samer al Balushi, Salim al Mukhaini, Mohammed al Raisi and Waleed al Farsi.
