National futsal team gears up for 2022 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers

The draw of 2022 AFC Futsal Asian Cup Qualifiers will take place on Thursday in Kuala Lumpur city. The Sultanate of Oman futsal team is among the participated teams in the qualifiers for the West Zone. Seven teams from the zone will be divided into two groups. The first group will comprise of four teams while the second group will feature three teams only. The participated teams will be split into four pots according to the team’s ranking in the 2018 AFC Futsal Championship in Chinese Taipei.


The national team accompanied by Palestine are placed in pot four while Iraq and Lebanon teams head West Zone teams as they put in first pot. The hosts of the qualifiers in the zone, United Arab Emirates (UAE), will be the only team in Pot three.


The national futsal team, coached by Younis al Fahadi, traveled to Bahrain recently for an abroad camp. The team will play the first friendly match in the external warm up camp on Thursday against Bahrain and the second preparatory match will take place on Saturday with the same gulf team. The camp is part of the team’s preparation plan for the Asian qualifier event and beside other forthcoming participations. The team had a short domestic preparatory camp in December and lasted for one week under watchful eyes of coach Younis al Fahdi. A 18 members been opted for the local preparatory gathering.


The qualifier matches of the west zone will be played in centralized venues as UAE will be the hosts for the zone fixtures. The duration of the matches will be held from April 1 to 15. Five teams will advance from West Zone and other ten qualifiers from different zones will join to compete for the prestigious Asian Futsal Cup in Kuwait.
