Meeting reviews readiness for Khareef season

Salalah: The office of the Minister of the State and Governor of Dhofar held a meeting to review the preparations for this year’s Khareef season, under the chairmanship of Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan al Busaidy, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar, on Wednesday.


The meeting reviewed the preparedness level of the relevant authorities to serve visitors during the tourist season. The topics discussed included the provision of adequate police presence to organize the traffic movement on all roads leading to Dhofar, securing green spaces and beaches with rescue teams, and maintaining security and safety for visitors.


Also discussed at the meeting were the ways for enhancing various municipal services including readiness of road signs on internal roads and roads leading to the Dhofar Governorate through the Wilayat of Thumrait and the coastal road through the Wilayat of Shalim and Al Hallaniyat Islands, and the readiness of venues to host the events and activities inside and outside the Wilayat of Salalah.


In the field of health services, the meeting discussed the importance of extending working hours in some health centres to meet the increasing need for health services resulting from influx of visitors to the governorate and to enhance the medical staff in the emergency centres, Salalah Heart Centre as well as the availability of adequate medicines and ambulance services on the Adam-Thumrait road and the border posts.


The meeting discussed the readiness of housing and accommodation facilities in terms of availability, level of service and ability to accommodate visitors, availability of food supplies the city of Salalah and the wilayats, readiness of telecommunications and electricity companies, preparedness of the roads leading to tourist sites in the governorate and the readiness of rest houses along the Adam-Thumrait road.


The meeting discussed ways of increasing the number flights operated by Oman Air and Salam Air airliners to transport tourists and visitors during the tourist season, in addition to following up on adherence to the precautionary measures issued by the Supreme Committee tasked with tackling the developments resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic.


The minister of state and governor of Dhofar called for coordination among the relevant authorities to ensure the provision of quality services to citizens and residents during the season.


The meeting was attended by Shaikh Muhana bin Saif al Lamki, Deputy Governor of Dhofar, Dr Ahmed bin Mohsin al Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality and a number of officials from public and private entities and the office of Minister of the State and Governor of Dhofar. — ONA
