Muscat, May 17

HM Cup and Omantel League champions Seeb will commence their AFC Cup campaign on Wednesday as they will take on Jableh SC of Syria at Seeb Stadium in the opening fixture of Group A. The match will kick off at 7 pm.

In the same group, three-time champions Kuwait SC will face Lebanon’s Al Ansar at the same venue later on Wednesday.

After a successful domestic 2021-22 season, Oman’s representative Seeb at AFC Cup will eye another triumph at the Asian level this time.

Seen head coach Boris Bunjak said AFC Cup will be contest among the teams with high technical levels. “This is another chapter of competition for Seeb. We are fully aware of the challenges of the campaign. I have much idea about Kuwait SC and Lebanon’s Al Ansar teams while have less knowledge about opening match opponents,” he said.

The Muscat-based team equipped with professional players and many of them represented the national football team.

The Serbian coach has many key players to depend during this Asian tourney including the top scorer of Omantel League Abdulaziz al Maqbali, Mohsin al Ghassani, Mohammed al Mussalami, Marwan Taeeb, Ali al Busaidi, Eid al Farsi and many other professional players.

The Seeb head coach is aware that Wednesday’s victory will strengthen Seeb’s chances to advance into next stage of the competition ahead of the forthcoming encounters against Kuwait SC and Al Ansar clubs.

Coach Bunjak said during the pre-match press conference that Seeb will miss services of Mohammed al Amri and Amjad al Harthi in the defence due to injury.

“Despite some injuries, Seeb are all set for the AFC challenge. It is a great opportunity for Seeb to play against three teams who had already won the AFC Cup titles in the previous seasons. The technical levels are similar for all the teams. The Asian matches level will definitely differ compared to the domestic games. We will not play with a defensive approach but will focus to present ourselves strong against Jableh SC in the opener.”

On the other hand, Oman’s other representative Dhofar will face Shabab Al Khalil of Palestine in Group B. The Group B hosts Kuwait’s Arabi SC will play against Bahrain’s Al Riffa at the Kuwait Sports Club Stadium at 7 pm (Oman time) while Dhofar match will be at the same venue at 11 pm (Oman time).
