Muscat: Seeb grouped with Kuwait SC, Lebanon’s Al Ansar and Jableh of Syria in 2022 AFC Cup
Dhofar clubbed Al Riffa from Bahrain, Palestine’s Shabab Al Khalil and Kuwait’s Arabi SC
Seeb have been clubbed with Kuwait SC, Lebanon’s Al Ansar and Jableh of Syria in Group A of the 2022 AFC Cup. The other Oman’s representative in the AFC Cup, Dhofar, joined Al Riffa from Bahrain, Palestine’s Shabab Al Khalil and Kuwait’s Arabi SC. The draw of AFC Cup took place in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
Only the winners from the three groups in the west are guaranteed to advance to the zonal semifinals alongside the team with the best runners-up record. Omani clubs are aiming for top show in the Asian event. The Sultanate of Oman representative Dhofar played two matches only in the AFC Cup in 2020 which was cancelled due to the Covid pandemic. In 2018, Dhofar came second in the group round behind Jordan’s Al Faisaly SC, Lebanon’s Al Ansar FC and Syria’s Al Wahda Sports Club.
Dhofar head coach Rasheed Jaber said the draw of the 2022 AFC Cup was equal for most of the teams. “The technical performance of the participating teams are almost similar. Dhofar will work hard this season to deliver top show in the AFC Cup,” he said.
The Salalah giants are leading the top-tier Omantel League with 26 points, while Seeb are in second spot with 24 points. Dhofar managed to beat Bahla 2-1 in the last round. Seeb blanked Al Nasr 2-0 in the same round. The competition is tough between both teams for the top spot in the league table.
