After more than two years of lull caused by the Covid pandemic, the Sultanate of Oman is set to play host to a number of local, regional and international expos in 2022.

Besides the Muscat International Book Fair held with Covid protocols earlier this year, many events by private and government agencies are lined up.

The Global HSE 2022, which will mark its 8th edition in Oman, will be held from May 16 to 19. HSE professionals from across the globe are expected to converge to share their knowledge, leading to the future of HSE practices.

The Interior Design and Furnishing Expo’s (IDF Oman) 8th edition is expected to open the trade exhibition doors to Oman and international business community at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC).

The iconic COMEX 2022, which is touted to be the country’s Technology and Communications Show, is making a big comeback from May 23 to 25.

This expo, currently in its 31st edition, has been serving as a sourcing and networking hub for the technology market and continues to be one of the Gulf’s leading platforms for ICT procurement, new product launches and technology demonstrations, besides supporting the local tourism in a big way.

“When we have international participants and visitors for the expos, tourism is receiving a major boost since they stay in hotels, eat out in restaurants, travel in taxis, buy souvenirs and every Rial spent by them is reflected on the economy’’, says Melwin D’Cunha, CEO of Muscat Expo.

Other expos to which the Sultanate of Oman will play host are the 2nd International Conference on Artificial Intelligence which will be a high-level conference for professionals, covering all sectors identified for growth by Vision 2040, as well as other major sectors which contribute significantly to Oman’s development side by side the COMEX expo.

The HORECA Oman, to be held from May 31 to June 2, will feature an exhibition of products, services, equipment and technologies, introducing key buyers to Oman’s hospitality and food and beverage service sectors. It is an educational, entertainment and business platform that highlights young talent through various culinary and hospitality competitions. The shows also boast live cooking demonstrations and B2B meetings.

Future Tech Expo will follow these and Summit from September 12 to 13, the Food and Hospitality Oman from September 26 to 28 and the EduTraC Oman from October 23 to 25, 2022.

“Exhibition is an excellent platform for meetings and procurement of products and services. Virtual meetings are equally effective but don’t come as good as the physical ones, and we look forward to business as usual as Oman is to host several expos and events in 2022’’, expo representatives opined.

Project Oman from October 24 to 26, OFSEC — Oman Fire, Safety and Security Event on October 25 and 26 , and the Oman Agro Food which is scheduled to be held from December 11 to 13, opening new horizons for investment and trade in the region.

All these expos, to be held at various conference halls of the iconic Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) are major game-changers in terms of tourism promotion.

In addition to all these hi-fi expos, two major musical events to offer a melodious treat to the citizens and residents are being prepared.

The first one is the return of the singing superstar Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, who is coming to Muscat after nine years.

He will be performing live at OCEC on June 3 at 8 pm. This will be followed by Issam al Najar live concert on June 14 at the Exhibition hall 1.

“Sultanate of Oman’s Expo and event management companies have taken a major setback duelling the pandemic, and now we will have to rise like a phoenix. It will take some time to recover, but we hope to have a turnaround’’, adds D’Cunha.
