Muscat: Seeb club sealed their second straight Omantel League title despite a goalless draw against Al Musannah in the 25th week of the top flight league at Seeb Stadium on Tuesday.

Ahead of the league conclusion by one week, Seeb ensured title after Al Rustaq held Al Nahda to a 1-1 draw.

The goalless draw of Seeb and Al Musannah confirmed Seeb topping the league table at 54 points while Al Nahda raised their credit to 50 points ahead of the league conclusion on Saturday in the final 26th week. The first title of Seeb club was in 2019-2020 season.

The HM Cup champions will lift the league title on Saturday at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex when they meet Dhofar in the concluding round of the top-tier league. The match will kick off at 7:10 pm. Seeb fans started the celebration at Seeb Stadium on Tuesday night while the top gala festival will be on Saturday.

Seeb’s triumph of league shield came after 25 tough weeks. Seeb players managed to end 25 matches with 16 wins, six draws and three defeats. Seeb strikers netted 49 goals while they conceded 16 goals. Abdulaziz al Maqbali emerged as the top league scorer with 13 goals while his team-mate Mohsin al Ghassani scored 11 goals to come second and Marwan Taeeb registered eight goals. Seeb’s forward line was ranked as the strongest striking line in the league.

Serbian coach Boris Bunjak has now led Seeb to titles in HM Cup and the Omantel League. He was in charge of Seeb coaching staff in last 17 rounds since eighth week of the league.

RELEGATION BATTLE

On the other hand, the penultimate round did not unveil the identity of the relegated teams to first division league.

All the key matches in the bottom league order ended in a draw except Saham's victory over Al Suwaiq. Nizwa finished their match against Al Ittihad in a 2-2 draw at the former's home in Nizwa Sports Complex. Nizwa are at 13th place with 20 points while Al Ittihad are at 10th place with 22 points.

A goalless draw was the final result of Muscat and Bahla match at the ROP Stadium. Both teams are not in the safe place as Bahla are placed 11th and Muscat in the 12th position with the same 21 points. Saham revived their chances to stay among the top teams as they edged Al Suwaiq 1-0 at Suhar Sports Complex. Mohammed al Balushi scored the only goal in the match. The win took Saham to 19 points while Al Suwaiq are in ninth place with 31 points.

Saham will play against Al Musannah in the final round while Muscat will take on Al Nasr and Nizwa will meet Bahla in a tight clash to conclude the 2021-22 Omantel League.
