AL BURAIMI: The solar power project in the Governorate of Al Buraimi is one of the most important renewable energy projects. The project is implemented by the Ministry of Education in the Sultanate School for girls and the Sultan Qaboos School for boys.

Asim bin Abdullah al Alawi from the department of projects at the Ministry of Education, said a total of 246 photovoltaic panels at car parks with a production capacity of 106 kilowatts at the Sultanate School. A total of 300 photovoltaic panels were installed at Sultan Qaboos School that are capable of producing 120 kilowatts.

The solar power projects in schools have contributed to reducing the cost of the electricity bill by 40 per cent and also raised students’ awareness of renewable energy and created business opportunities for entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises, Al Alawi said.

He explained that the solar power projects executed by the Ministry of Education are a true translation of the Omani government’s strategy towards renewable energy and diversifying the sources of clean energy as well as raising the effectiveness of public spending in collaboration with the companies supporting the clean energy initiatives.
