Bulgaria camp to shape up Oman spikers for GCC Games

Oman national volleyball team concluded their long domestic camp in Suhar during the holy month of Ramadhan on a bright note. The preparatory camp was part of the team’s preparation to take part in the third edition of the GCC Games which will be held in Kuwait during May 20 to 26. The recently concluded internal warm-up gathering featured a friendly match for the national volleyball team against the UAE team. Oman edged the UAE team 3-2 in the preparatory game at Al Ain city in UAE. The scoreline of the match ended at 23-25, 29-27, 25-18, 20-25, 15-9.


The following part of the team’s preparation schedule will be an external camp in Bulgaria. The abroad camp will begin after Eid break and under watchful eyes of the national coach Jamal al Maamari starting from May 7 to 17. Ahead of the external camp, the team will gather for a short internal camp to travel later to Sofia city.


It is expected that the coaching staff of the national team will focus in the forthcoming external camp on some technical and tactical sides beside finalisng the starting line-up for the GCC Games. During the previous internal sessions, the players had trained on physical and fitness sides after an absence of the training sessions for many months.


The upcoming GCC Games event will be the first actual assignment for the coaching staff of the team. The head coach and his assistant staff will aim for top show in the GCC Games and will target top places in this prestigious event.


Oman will commence their campaign at the GCC Games in Kuwait with a match against Qatar in the opener on May 20. In the following game, they will take on the hosts Kuwait and then they will meet Bahrain on May 24. Later, they will face the UAE team and then conclude their group matches against Saudi Arabia on May 26.


Head coach Jamal al Maamari had opted for 15 players for the last domestic camp in Suhar. The selection of the players was based on their performance at the latest domestic competitions including first division league and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth volleyball shield championships. The probables of the squad included Hilal al Maqbali, Saud al Maamari, Mahmood al Saadi, Ismail al Hadi, Mohammed al Maqbali, Yousuf al Shukali, Falah al Jaradi, Ahmed al Toobi, Khalid al Maqbali, Younis al Amri, Khamis al Jabri, Abdullah al Maqbali, Adam al Jalboobi, Abdullah al Shibli and Majid al Shibli.
