National volleyball team gears up for GCC Games

The Sultanate of Oman volleyball team gears up to take part in the third GCC Games which will take place in Kuwait from January 10 to 17th.


The team will have an external camp in Bahrain as part of the preparatory program ahead of GCC Games. The camp, which started on Wednesday and will conclude on Saturday, will feature many friendly matches against Bahrain national team and local Bahraini clubs.


The new national head coach, Jamal al Mamari, opted with 14 players for the camp after a close follow up and monitoring them in the first division league.


The list includes Hilal al Maqbali, Saud al Mamari, Ayman Ahmed, Ismail al Hedi, Mohammed al Maqbali, Ahmed al Toobi, Younis al Amri, Abdullah al Maqbali, Khamis al Jabri, Yousef al Shukaili, Khalid al Maqbali, Adam al Jalbobi, Falah al Jaradi and Mahmood al Saadi.


The coaching staff comprised Jamal al Mamari as head coach, Hilal al Jabri as assistant coach Khalid al Maqbali as team manager, Ali al Farsi as physician and Hamed al Ghabshi as admin member. The team will look for top show in the event and will eye for the top places.


On the other hand, the first round of Sultanate of Oman volleyball first division league concluded on Friday. Sultanate of Oman Club beat Sohar 3-0 (25-22, 25-28, 25-21). Saham defeated Bahla 3-0 (25-20, 25-24,25-26).


Seeb managed to register tough win over Al Kamil Wal Wafi club 3-2 (26-28, 25-19, 23-25, 25-23,23-21). After the completion of the first round, Al Kamil Wal Wafi club is leading the table by 16 points while Seeb is positioned as the runner up with 14 points. Masirah club in the third place and possesses 12 points. Sultanate of Oman club (11) and Sohar (6) are placed in fourth and fifth positions respectively. Saham is in sixth place with four points while Bahla in the bottom with nil points.
