Muscat: Mohsin bin Hani al Bahrani was elected as first chairman of Al Amerat club during the foundation general assembly meeting which took place on Saturday at the meeting hall of the Oman Women's Association. Al Bahrani was the only candidate in fray for this post.

It was a historic day for the Wilayat of Al Amerat as they selected on Saturday their historic first board directors of Al Amerat club. Al Amerat is among most populated city in Muscat Governorate besides Muscat, Seeb, Bausher, Qurayat and Muttrah.

The youth of Al Amerat will be looking for a busy schedule of sporting activities during the coming period as it is one of top populated cities and featured many top sporting events during the previous period.

Many members attended the foundation general assembly meeting besides representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and Al Amerat Wali office.

Ahmed bin Marhoon al Hadi was elected as the secretary-general, while Said bin Darweesh al Balushi became the treasurer. Both were elected unopposed.

Eng Saif bin Mohammed al Barwani won the vice-chairman post after close contest with Mohammed bin Ramadhan al Balushi, representative of Wilayat of Al Amerat at Majlis Ash’shura, and Mumtaz bin Faqir al Balushi, former board member of Oman swimming and volleyball associations.

The five board members elected include Fawaz al Wahaibi, Rashid al Balushi, Ayoob al Hasani, Abdullah al Rahbi and Omar al Shibli. Salim al Hadi did not succeed as he had the less number of votes among the six members.

The elected board of directors of Al Amerat club will have their first board meeting soon to define the priorities of the club for the next period. Also, it is expected the board will announce the sub-committees of sports, cultural and youth activities in the club.

In January, HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, unveiled the Council of Ministers’ approval to announce sports and culture clubs in some wilayats including Al Amerat club from Muscat Governorate. The decision was within the context of the Royal attention accorded by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to sports and culture clubs — given their role in honing the skills and talents of youth and serving as podiums for cultural, sports and youth activities.
